Coach Brinton is a former pro cyclist who competed in the 1988 Olympic Games, is a 4x masters world champion, and 3x masters world record holder. As a boy, he won over 100 trophies as a BMX racer and performed stunt shows throughout Southern California as part of a BMX freestyle stunt team. Brinton also had a 17-year career as a Hollywood Stuntman specializing in jumping and crashing bicycles, and known for being the stunt double for actor Kevin Bacon.
Coach Brinton is s a pioneer of private coaching in the United States dating back to 1984, when he kicked off his coaching career as the private skills coach of two-time Academy Award winning actor, Kevin Costner. Brinton was hired to teach Kevin and other actors how to ride like pro cyclists for the movie, American Flyers.
From the beginning of Brinton’s coaching career, he branded himself as “Bicycling’s Private Trainer” modeling after personal trainers in the gym. At the time, there were virtually no other private cycling coaches in the United States. Brinton promoted his skills coaching expertise by placing ads and distributing flyers in bike shops throughout Southern California. Even today, it seems he is one of the very few road cycling coaches emphasizing on skill development.
Coach Brinton was also the private skills coach of numerous members of the Los Angeles Police Department Bicycle Unit, including two LAPD Bicycle Unit Coordinators, one of the founders of LAPD’s Bicycle Unit, and the Captain of the LAPD’s Police Academy.
Although Brinton’s specialty is coaching beginning through intermediate riders, he has also coached numerous national champions, national team members, world champions, and world record holders. His true passion as a coach is helping others achieve their very best, regardless of their age, experience, or racing potential.
Since Brinton began coaching over 40 years ago, he has performed bike fittings for more than 5,000 riders of all ages and experience levels and has conducted more than 6,000 bike skills and safety sessions for his privately coached cyclists, gravel riders, ultra-endurance riders, mountain bikers, track cyclists, and triathletes.
